You should too! Why? Because it is selfish if you don't. I am not just talking about getting vaccinated for H1N1 but for the flu too. People always try to make up excuses or say: "Well if everyone else gets vaccinated, then I won't be at risk because no one around me will get it". Yeah, what other times has this same idea been applied and proven successful? Ever heard of STD's?!
So anyway...today, I took the H1N1 up the...nose. It was an attenuated live virus which simply means that it was an active form of the virus but the virulence or vitality of the virus has been greatly reduced. Why is this important? Well, gather around kids and let me tell you about 'Spanish Influenza'...
This killed a ton of people; as in more then the bubonic plague. Why? Because it was indroduced into a popluation that had never been exposed to this kind of virus ever. This is where there is a great similarity between the Spanish Flu and H1N1. As of today, H1N1 has been introduced to us, a population that has never been exposed to this kind of virus, which makes it highly virulent to us. Even though we have way better medical care now then we did in 1918, it is not something to risk. And P.S., you know who died of the Spanish Flu? Edward Cullen. From Twilight. True story (from a fiction book...nonetheless). I know it was a low shot, but I am not below it.
So if you take anything away from this blog, let it be the importance of getting vaccinated...and that STD's are bad!
Kathalope I completely agree. Every year I recieve vaccinations for bubonic plague, black plague, flu, H1N1, TB, and black death..
